  • Another Great Find And This One Has Boost!
By User ImageBart Piotrowski on December 18, 2007 | No Comments Comments

Working on the weekend I found a great surprize, a Garret turbo charger used but looks like it’s in great shape. I checked all fins and they are fine, spun the turbine and it was smooth, and very little free play. So the next step that we took to see if it was good is we took a gas powered leaf blower and used that to power the exhaust side and man did that little turbo spin up fast. I even pulled the turbo away from the outlet of the leaf blower and it was still spinning really nice. Will see what I can do with it but here are some pictures of what it looks like.

I looked it up online but i’m trying to figure out what it came off.

  • Proper Identification of an Si/Ex Tranny
By User ImageBart Piotrowski on December 18, 2007 | No Comments Comments

Recently my tranny has been making alot of noise, I did some research on tranny noises when the clutch is released and discovered that my input shaft bearing on my tranny is gone. This is bad news but not to bad as I was gonna swap out the engine and tranny out at the same time anyways. I started looking at wreckers and other places but today I found a cheap Si tranny in the local classifieds for really cheap, I also picked up a replacement drivers side mirror as mine is cracked, rear hatch window, rear drivers side light, and alternator for $220 bucks. Now thats a good deal as the wrecker wanted $350 for DX tranny and $550 for Si tranny by itself. The guy who I bought it from confirmed that it is indeed an Si tranny a couple of times but just to make sure i will do a test to see if it has the right gears in it. The Si and Ex trannies are the same and should bare the markings P20 -B000 and the DX/CX is P20-A000 but from what I could see I did not see this on the tranny. So I did some research and found a neat easy way to figure it out for sure. Here is a link to a tranny test you can do it figure out if your tranny is Si/Ex or DX. Tranny Test

  • 2 More ECU Tuning Options
By User ImageBart Piotrowski on December 7, 2007 | No Comments Comments

I had a comment posted by a fellow reader which informed me of 2 other ECU Tuning ways you could go, one is eCtune (Comperable to Hondata) and the other is PGMFI.com (open-source ECU development). Once I really get into the ECU tuning part of my car build I will make sure I look up both of those websites out and find out the best one for me to use.
